This week, we’re highlighting our senior product designer, Sean Buchanan.
Read on to learn about the dynamic nature of his role, what he’s learned over the years, and his one-word description of xDesign!
1. First things first! What is your role at xDesign and how long have you been with the company?
I’m a senior product designer at xDesign (recently promoted from UX and UI designer!) and I’ve been here for three and a half years.
2. What’s your professional background & what led you here?
xDesign was my first major opportunity in the tech industry. Before working here, I spent a few years hustling as a contractor after finishing uni. I came into the role as a bleary eyed junior, eager to absorb as much as possible, and I couldn’t have asked for a better tech education than the one I’ve received at xDesign! Over the last three and a half years I’ve learnt an incredible amount, both in my own discipline, and in the many other professions that make up a digital product team.
3. What’s involved in your day-to-day role?
Every day is different! One day I might be collaborating with engineers, sweating the details and testing designs, and another day I could be in a (virtual) room with our product team and clients, looking at product strategies for the future. As a product designer at xDesign, you really get involved in all aspects of the project lifecycle: from pre-sales and discovery, right through to delivery and refinement.
4. What’s something you’re passionate about when it comes to your work?
Working with great people! For me, the people you work with day-in-day-out are what make a job really enjoyable. That’s what keeps me excited about work and gets me up in the morning.
5. Describe xDesign in one word.
