In this “Meet n’ Greet” series, we’ll introduce you to some of the incredible people working at xDesign who help us drive our growth and success, every day. This week, we’re highlighting our mobile lead, James Malcolm. Read on to learn about his journey into the mobile team, his passion for mentorship, and his one-word description of xDesign!
1. First things first! What is your role at xDesign and how long have you been with the company?
I’m xDesign's mobile lead and I've been with the company for seven years.
2. What’s your professional background & what led you here?
xDesign was my second software job after university: my previous position was stalling a bit and I started looking for new opportunities. After meeting with Euan Andrews, I knew this was somewhere I could grow professionally and, most importantly, really enjoy my work.
3. What’s involved in your day-to-day role?
I'm in a very fortunate position where I get to do a lot of different things every day which always keeps things interesting. The majority of my day is a combination of writing code in Swift or Flutter and jumping into an engineering management role to help keep projects on track. I also have the pleasure of running team meetings and 1:1s with the mobile department. However, I'd say the role I’m most appreciated for within xDesign is spreading positivity and laughter within the team.
4. What’s something you’re passionate about when it comes to your work?
This is a difficult question because there are so many aspects of my job that I enjoy, but if I had to pick one it would be my role as a mentor, as that allows me to contribute to the growth and development of the people around me. xDesign has become the company it is today because of the people that have been part of this journey, and I'm in the position I am because of the opportunities and support I have received while working here. Now, I aim to offer that same support to the people around me.
