Five Questions with Gregor Smith: Junior Quality Assurance Engineer

We have a great team working together here at xDesign: our team (working on-site and remotely) are full of fun, intelligent, driven people who make our company an exciting, friendly place to be.

In this “Meet 'n’ Greet” series, we’ll introduce you to some of the incredible people working at xDesign who help us drive our growth and success, every day.

This week, we’re highlighting our junior quality assurance engineer, Gregor Smith.

Read on to learn about how he started off in the world of quality assurance, what his day-to-day involves and his one-word description of xDesign.

1. First things first! What is your role at xDesign and how long have you been with the company?

I’m a junior quality assurance engineer, working with xDesign for over 10 months.

2. What’s your professional background & what led you here?

After leaving school, I studied Digital Media at university and then had a series of short-term gaming QA contracts with the likes of Sony. These roles would involve playing video games, filming myself giving live commentary and feedback then meeting with the developers at Sony to go over my findings in full.

I came across xDesign through LinkedIn and after applying and being invited to interview, I joined the team!

3. What’s involved in your day-to-day role?

My day-to-day involves providing quality assurance for a number of xDesign’s clients.

One team consists of myself and two other QA engineers working on the client's website and app. This app has been created to replicate the menu and till system for big bar establishments where customers can order food and drinks straight from their phones, and my job is to check that the app has no issues and runs smoothly. We are in the early stages of developing the website, which allows the app to be maintained and adjusted, so I am mainly testing components and text against designs.

I’m also involved in another web development project that’s in the latter stages, so right now I am testing bonus pages within the website, for example, contact us, terms and conditions, and making sure everything is working as it should be.

4. What’s something you’re passionate about when it comes to your work?

One thing I am passionate about when it comes to working at xDesign is building a social rapport with new people.

5. Describe xDesign in one word.

Nourishing.
