Five Questions with Rob Wilson: iOS Developer

We have a great team working together here at xDesign: our people (working on-site and remotely!) are fun, intelligent, driven, and make our company an exciting, friendly place to be.

In this “Meet n’ Greet” series, we’ll introduce you to some of the incredible people working at xDesign who help us drive our growth and success, every day.

This week, we’re highlighting Rob Wilson, one of our fantastic iOS developers. Read on to learn about Rob’s background (in chemical engineering!), his favourite thing about his job, and his one-word description of xDesign!

1. First things first! What is your role at xDesign and how long have you been with the company?

I’m an iOS developer and I’ve been with xDesign since March 2019, so two and half years!

2. What’s your professional background & what led you here?

I originally trained as a chemical engineer, and the main thing I learned from that experience was that I really didn’t want to be a chemical engineer! However, I had some exposure to programming while working in that field, and I always found it really engaging. So, I decided to invest more time into programming, and after I completed a training course, I started with xDesign as a junior developer.

What initially attracted me to the company was the opportunity to work on a multitude of projects, and use new technologies. I hoped such an environment would help me upskill quickly and gain invaluable experience. I was right!

3. What’s involved in your day-to-day role?

My main responsibility is to produce the code for our clients’ iOS applications. So, writing code takes up most of my time, but certainly not all of it. We’re invested in Agile processes here, so I also spend a lot of time collaborating with my team on acceptance criteria writing, retrospectives, functional reviews, design reviews etc., which all help ensure that we’re producing the best possible product in an efficient way.

4. What’s something you’re passionate about when it comes to your work?

The Agile processes that we have implemented here bring me the most joy when it comes to my work. Of course, it’s always really satisfying to build cool products, but constantly working to improve our processes and building relationships over time is gratifying on an entirely different, and really special level.

5. Describe xDesign in one word.

Betterment.
